The major talking points from the Europa League Action

This Europa League round had everyone’s attention fixed on the match at Signal Iduna Park. What drew everyone’s attention was the return of Jurgen Klopp with his Liverpool squad. The atmosphere of both sides rendition of “You’ll will never walk alone” was amazing, this being their first meeting in Europe.

Matters on the pitch were tense throughout. Some would say the draw is a fair enough result for both. The Liverpool defence managed to cope with the free scoring Aubameyang. On the other end Divock Origi managed to put one in the back of the net to conclude a memorable tie.

The tie between Shakhtar Donestk and Sporting Braga looked to be heading in favour of the Ukrainians who lead through Yaroslav Rakitskiy, Facundo Ferreyra looked to have settle matters in the second half before a late goal by Braga gave them something to take into the second leg.

The Ukranian outfit will fancy their chances in the second leg with return of first team regular who missed the match through suspension such as Fred.

 The Spanish Affair

The Europa League quarter final action had one winner that being La Liga outfits. The round featured three La Liga teams representing them. From the results so far the semi-finals look like having two Spanish clubs with a foot in the next round.

Villarreal settled affairs with Sparta Prague through a Bakambu double, the French striker’s run of form in front of goal continues.

Matters at the San Mames were entertaining in the all-Spanish encounter. Sevilla who are looking to defend their Europa League did what had to be done. Athletic Bilbao lead early through Aduriz to give the home side some hope. However the reigning champion’s rallied

back through goals from Thimothée Kolodzieczak and Vicente Iborra to settle the match.

Next week promises to be a battle, when all the sides meet for the second round.
