The underdog is slowly diminishing in African football

In the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations tournament which is still going on in Gabon has been nothing but a lesson for some of the so-called big nations. This shows how much the game has changed, you don’t have to have big name players to achieve things in football. Leicester City and Zambia proved it, both winning Africa Cup of Nations and Premier League respectively.

This year the underdog revolution continues. The likes of Algeria and defending champions Ivory Coast have all bowed out of the competition. This game has changed a lot, few years ago you would not have seen this coming. It would not be a surprise if a nation not considered to be as strong as others take the Cup this year.

There is surely another twist to the tale waiting for us in the tournament. The groups are almost near the end and there are plenty of surprises to be witnessed. This unpredictability surely makes the tournament more exciting than ever.
